I recently re-watched First Wives Club, which is one of the great cinematic romps. The scene when Brenda's friend Duarto Feliz is distracting a young Sarah Jessica Parker by describing how eyes relate to window treatments gets me every time! "The windows are the eyes of our room...the valence are the eyebrows...the drapes the eyelashes" - a proverb!

As I sat there in front of my New York City apartment window, I could not help but think - if window treatments are the eyes of the room then is lighting the soul? Am I Carrie Bradshaw?

Lighting truly changes everything in a space, from the shape, location in a room, height of the light, and the bulb warmth. It affects how the colours in the space look and feel, how shadows and negative space is created, and ultimately how you feel in the space.

Which leads to this, the PH series of lighting from Louis Poulsen. These lights were designed by Poul Henningsen, a Danish writer, thinker, and architect. The PH 5 pendants in particular were designed to spread the light from a single bulb to create reflection, glow, and focused light sources.

This article from Elle Decoration from a few years ago has a great summary of the partnership between Louis Poulsen and Poul Henningsen. The Poul Henningsen current catalogue with Louis Poulsen is here for your viewing pleasure. I dream of owning everyone of them!
