I suppose this is sort of the third start to a design journey. As pretentious as it may seem, I have been dreaming of this day since I sat in a cafe in Paris many years ago. Truth is, it was a mediocre cafe across the street from a string of designer fashion stores. I sat there watching the busy shoppers walk out with their fistful of purchases. I sat there dreaming, scheming, and wondering where all these shoppers got their money from. Dreaming perhaps of one day being successful enough in my design passions to be in that bustling queue being observed by another dreamer. That dream was lessened by the sad realities of a "real job".

My heart explodes with the thought of sitting in a cafe in Paris right now.

The second start was more considered and came with a business license. It occurred in a period between the "real job" and the “grass is greener at a different job” kind of job. I felt boundless. I worked with some real clients - sometimes even getting paid - designing layouts, paint selections, and furniture shopping. Each time I felt constrained by the work even though I craved it. I would design things specific for the clients wishes, then on the side I would take those concepts and blend and edit. This was the benchmark work I now realize I was missing. Embracing an aesthetic - now that sounds pretentious.

It is all too easy to fall into the design philosophies or dare I say "trends" being thrown at us on social media. The irony of writing this blog post while preaching about embracing one’s aesthetic is not lost on me. This blog was born out of a sudden epiphany after a six-month cleanse from social media.

In a way, the social media design world is both inspiring and dream crushing. You are bombarded with different designers work and their incredible success. So, you feel elated but inevitably deflated in comparing your own "successes" in comparison to theirs. If you also feel trapped in this dreadful cycle, trust me, a social media cleanse will be restorative.

So here we are. The first post and the third beginning. The intention of this blog is to share my current inspirations through the Mood Board. I hope to see it evolve and flow as my mind wanders. The Journal is intended to share deeper thoughts. We are made from the past so an important spirit I want to bring to the Journal is one of learning and exploration. I am truly elated to be starting on this journey and I look forward to sharing it with you.

Final Moment:

I am in love with this deep purple. Specifically on the walls and ceiling in a walk in closet with custom white oak cabinets. Open shelves display sneakers, and honed white marble are accentuated by the negative space of this colour.
